19.2 Pound Indonesian Baby!

28 Sep

This past Monday, a baby weighing 19.2 pounds (8.7kg) was born to a woman named Muhammad Akbar Risuddin in Indonesia. The giant baby-boy is about three times the average weight of a normal newborn. He is now officially the heaviest and largest baby born in the country.

The Giant Baby lies next to a normal-sized newborn.

“I was very surprised. I thought it was twins,” said Binsar Sitanggang, the lead doctor in the cesarean-section delivery at Abdul Manan Hospital in North Sumatra. The baby had to be provided oxygen to overcome breathing problems initially, but he is reported healthy now. The boy now has an enormous appetite and needs to be fed constantly.

According to the American Diabetes Association, the mother had gestational diabetes (when a mother developes diabetes during pregnancy) which causes a build up of insulin resistance. As a result, the baby’s pancreas must create more insulin which will in turn result in a fat baby.

This baby-boy has already became the talk of the nation and even the mayor came to see this newborn and had the honor of naming the boy after himself on Friday.

“This baby boy is extraordinary; the way he’s crying is not like an usual baby,” said doctor Sitanggang.

Kanye Steals the Spotlight at the VMAs!

13 Sep

Country singer Taylor Swift won the title for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 13, 2009. She beat other nominees such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce just to name a few.

As she was giving her acceptance speech, Kanye West ran on stage and rudely took her microphone. He announces that Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time for her song “Single Ladies” and that she should have won the award instead. 19-year-old Swift was left speechless while the crowd booed Kanye off the stage.

What a scene! Some might say Kanye was rude and tasteless, others would call him a straight-up asshole. Don’t get me wrong. West is no doubt a talented artist, but he really needs to watch what he says especially because this is not the first incident where he outrageously gave the audience a piece of his mind. But you know what? It was probably the best moment of the VMAs and that leaves the night nothing less than memorable.

R&B diva Beyonce was the bigger person in comparison to West. When she won the title for video of the year, she invited Swift onto the stage where she could finally “have her moment.”

West did eventually apologize later on in his personal blog about his outburst at the VMAs to Swift, her fans, and her mother.

Goodbye Bruce Bowen

Bowen announces retirement on Thursday.

Bowen announces retirement on Thursday.

Known as one of the top defenders of his era, Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs officially announced his retirement from the NBA on September 3, 2009. Stats will not justify what a superb player he was, yet many fans will remembr Bowen as one of the best denfenders in NBA history while others will say he was a “cheap shot artist.”

Playing along side with San Antonio superstar Tim Duncan, rising point guard Tony Parker and international superstar Manu Ginovili, he was a key player in winning 3 championship rings in 2003, 2005, and 2007. He scored only 5,290 points in his career and never averaged  more than 8.2 in a season. Although he was not a great  scorer, he is most known as a lock-down defender. He defended major players such as Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and other top primeter shooters. Despite his lack of offense, Bowen has developed into a tremendous 3-point clutch shooter for the Spurs.

Making his NBA debut with the Miami Heats on a 10 day contract, Bowen played 1 minute with only 1 block. He was then signed by the Boston Celtics from 1997 til 1998. He then signed with the Philedelphia 76ers in the following season where he was immediately traded back to the Heats. In the season following, he finally found a home with the San Antonio Spurs.

After 12 seasons in the NBA, Bowen retired at age 38. He feels as if he has made a name in San Antonio Spurs francise after having the team pick up young superstar such as Richard Jefferson to replace his position. He feels like his San Antonio days are over and retirement was the right choice.
