Twitter Taking Over The World

Twitter have become the “it” thing since the popularity of facebook. It is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read messages known as tweets. You can update your life every moment of the day with 140 characters.

A new Internet and American Lifestyle study say’s that almost 1 in every 5 American internet user tweets. This means that 20 percent of internet users are using twitter. Twitter is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa’s web traffic analysis. A Compete.com blog  ranked Twitter as the third most used social network in February 2009. In March 2009, a Nielsen.com blog ranked Twitter as the fastest-growing site in the “Member Communities category.”

The above chart above shows that  twitter is attracting more and more young adults and teens everyday. They use the site for their own social networking purpose. The survey has been conducted with 2,253 users, age 18 and above.  The trend of staying in touch by using these status updates has led to increased usage. Twitter is very popular for the age group of 18-34. Other age group seem to adopt slower, with ages of 35-49 and 50-60 amounting to 17 percent. Still, these groups increased by 5, 6 and 2 percent respectively, since December 2008.

Seems like twitter is here to stay. Many businesses and entertainment worlds are using twitter to advertise or sell their products. Everyone is using twitter to their own interests. It is ultimately just a way to stay connected.
